Start where you are.
You can contact these programs directly. If the forms, choices or follow-up get overwhelming, Dmoonz can help organize your next steps, identify the right office and connect you with appropriate resources.
Program providers decide eligibility, enrollment, funding and placements. A referral or application is a starting point, not a promised approval.
Work toward your next job.
Workforce1: free job-search support
What it does: NYC Workforce1 offers job preparation, matching and connections to training. Ask about résumé help, interview preparation and opportunities that fit your experience.
How to start: Visit the official program page, register through its current route and contact a center. Ask what identification and eligibility documents are needed and whether services can be accessed remotely.
Who pays: Workforce1 services are free. A training referral does not automatically mean every outside course is funded.

A new skill can be a next step.
High-school equivalency and English classes
What it means: High-school equivalency (HSE) preparation helps you work toward the GED credential. English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) supports English-language learning.
Where to begin: NYC Public Schools Adult Education offers tuition-free classes for eligible adults age 21 and older. Class and enrollment requirements vary. Contact the program for an intake appointment and ask about placement, schedule and the route that fits your goal.
Career training: check the outcome before the price
Ask Workforce1 which training opportunities fit your target job. Before enrolling, confirm the credential earned, prerequisites, duration, schedule, total cost and any approved funding. Ask what employment support is provided and whether required exams or licenses cost extra.
A course advertisement is not a job offer. Get funding approval before relying on reimbursement.
Support for disability-related work barriers.
ACCES-VR: a plan toward employment
What it means: Adult Career and Continuing Education Services–Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) supports eligible people whose disabilities affect employment.
How to start: Use the official application route and provide the requested disability information securely. A counselor evaluates eligibility and works with eligible participants on an employment plan.
What to ask: Which training, job preparation, accommodations or other supports may fit your approved goal? What requires advance authorization? What documentation is missing? Do not assume tuition, equipment or transportation is automatically covered.
Make an education plan you can sustain.
College, financial aid and student support
First steps: Choose a program aligned with your goal, check admissions requirements and speak with the college’s admissions and financial-aid offices. Ask about FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), New York TAP (Tuition Assistance Program), grants and scholarships.
Understand the money: Grants and loans are different. Loans require repayment under their terms. Compare tuition, fees, books, transportation and time away from work before accepting an offer.
CUNY ASAP: ask about support beyond classes
Accelerated Study in Academic Programs (ASAP) provides academic, career and other supports for eligible students at participating CUNY colleges. Eligible students may receive assistance with the tuition-and-fee gap and other study costs under the program’s rules.
Check the participating college, enrollment requirements and financial-aid steps. Ask the college’s ASAP team what you qualify for before budgeting around support.
Keep the essentials in the plan.
Education and job plans work better when housing and everyday needs get attention too. Screen for the programs relevant to your household, and report changes as required.

Starting work or school can affect benefits differently. Ask the administering agency about earnings, reporting duties and student rules before assuming a benefit will stay the same or end.
