Your ZIP code.
Your next possibility.

National directories connect families in all 50 states to local resources. Use your location to find the provider that actually serves you—not a promise that every program exists in every town.

Find local help across all 50 states

Start with these national routes. They lead to local organizations and state agencies; this page does not list a separately verified class in every state.

Start with your ZIP code · local 211

Open the local 211 finder and enter your ZIP code, address or county. Ask for free children’s activities, after-school programs, diapers, food, school supplies or family support.

Do next: contact the listed local service and confirm cost, eligibility, referral requirements and openings. If dialing 211 does not connect from your phone, use the online finder for the local contact number.

Enter your location at 211 ↗

Choose your state · child care, early learning and assistance

ChildCare.gov’s state-and-territory directory covers all 50 states plus additional jurisdictions. Select your state there, then explore child-care resources, financial assistance, early learning and the relevant agency.

Do next: distinguish a subsidy application from a free program. Check qualifying activities, income rules, ages, provider participation and waitlists through your state’s current instructions.

Libraries and free local enrichment

Find your public library and open its official events calendar. Ask a children’s librarian for free reading clubs, homework help, arts, music or technology activities suited to your child.

Do next: contact your school district and local parks or recreation department for free programs or fee waivers. YMCA, conservatory and camp programs may charge; ask about aid and the remaining cost rather than assume they are free.

For piano, ask specifically about beginner instruction, instruments, recurring lessons and full scholarships. A free introductory event is different from free ongoing tuition.

Free learning you can use at home

Khan Academy Kids: free early-learning app for ages 2–8. PBS KIDS: educational games and videos. Music Will JamZone: keyboard introductions and practice resources.

Do next: choose material together and check device, internet and instrument needs. These links are learning resources, not childcare or guaranteed live classes.

Baby supplies, groceries and school meals

Use the diaper-assistance guide to locate a local bank or partner. Feeding America’s finder accepts a ZIP code and identifies the food bank serving your area.

USAGov explains WIC, school meals and other food-assistance routes. Apply through the relevant agency; household rules and benefits differ. Check pickup hours and required referrals before traveling.

Preschool and disability-related support

Use the federal Head Start guide to find early-learning pathways, and the special-education guide to identify early-intervention or school services.

Do next: contact the program or school district, request the application or evaluation process and ask for language or accessibility support. Do not assume the same eligibility or cost rules apply in every state.

Fourth graders · Every Kid Outdoors

Eligible fourth graders and homeschool equivalents can obtain a pass for participating federal lands and waters. The official rules explain who can enter with the child and what fees are covered.

Do next: get the pass through the current instructions, check your destination and bring the required pass. Transportation, camping and other charges may remain.

Your family resource checklist
  • Child’s age or grade, ZIP code and preferred language.
  • Interest or immediate need: reading, music, food, diapers, care or school support.
  • Days, hours, transportation and accessibility needs.
  • Written confirmation of tuition, registration and supply costs.
  • Application date, contact name and waitlist follow-up.

Submit identity, financial and medical documents only through the provider’s appropriate secure process. Ask about referrals before paying anyone to “unlock” a public benefit.

Need groceries? Start with your ZIP code.

Find the organization serving your area, then check the pantry or meal site’s hours before traveling.

Across the United States

Open Feeding America’s finder and enter your ZIP code there. Select the food bank to learn about nearby partner pantries, meal programs and distributions. A food bank may be a distribution warehouse rather than a walk-in pantry.

New York City

Food Bank For NYC’s map lists pantry and meal locations across the five boroughs. Find a nearby site and confirm how to receive food.

Before you go · avoid a wasted trip

Confirm opening hours, appointments, residency or referral rules, what documents are requested and whether food is currently available. Ask about dietary needs and accessibility. Requirements differ by location.

The ZIP-code search happens on the provider’s website; this section does not collect your ZIP code or reserve groceries. If you need another local referral, use 211’s local finder.

Need help organizing the next step?

Tell us your ZIP code, child’s age range and the help you need. Providers determine eligibility, openings and benefits. Keep sensitive family documents out of general intake.
